6 Tips For An Effective LinkedIn Marketing Strategy

LinkedIn is an invaluable tool for any business that wants to develop an effective lead generation and marketing strategy.

If your business is not using LinkedIn to interact with potential clients, then you’re leaving money on the table!

I’ve put together 6 tips to help you get started with using LinkedIn to its full potential:

1.      Optimize Your Profile

Your LinkedIn profile is your introduction to potential leads. Like your website or place of business, the impact needs to be immediate.

It should be in line with your brand message, with proper voice and tone (ideally, first person!), and convey your sales message.

Someone reading your profile needs to be able to determine right away which product(s) and/ or service(s) you offer, and how you can help them address their pain points.

NB: Having an ★ ★ ★ All Star ★ ★ ★ profile does not mean your profile is fully optimized!

2.      Carefully Cultivate Connections

You want to build connections, but not just with anyone. Your connections should be potential leads, leaders in your industry and others who can introduce you to leads.

This way, you’ll not only reach people who can benefit directly from your product or service, but their network as well.

As a general rule of thumb, make sure you have 500+ connections for social proof and to extend your network reach.

3.      Join Relevant Industry Groups to Expand Your Network Reach

LinkedIn groups are communities formed by those in the same industry or with similar interests. Join groups in your own industry and those where you wish to develop leads.

At time of writing, LinkedIn allows you to be a member of 100 groups.

The total number of LinkedIn groups available to join is 1.5 million.

4.      Don’t Be a L.I.O.N! 

L.I.O.N stands for LinkedIn Open Networker.

Such profiles usually have thousands of connections – and openly advertise that they will connect with anyone!

At first glance, they may seem like a great connection, but, in reality, many of these relationships will add nothing to your LinkedIn experience.

They have no desire to interact nor form meaningful relationships, and their profiles don’t often share or post any useful content.

Whilst it might seem impressive to have thousands of connections, it’s only useful if there’s quality and substance to it.

LinkedIn states: “To ensure an optimal site experience, members can have a maximum of 30,000 1st-degree connections.” Wowzers!

5.      Share Great Content

When your shares bring value to your connections, they’ll begin to look to you as a Thought Leader.

Sharing great content helps build your expertise, and hence brings awareness to your brand.

As you make connections, aim to target people who offer information that your ideal clients find useful.

Give credit where credit is due! If content resonates with you, then share it and credit the author for their hard work. Like ✔ Comment ✍ Share ⇨

6.      Create Great Content

LinkedIn gives you the opportunity to post original posts and articles.

It provides an additional platform with which to create content designed to build brand awareness, drive newsletter sign-ups, or increase traffic to a lead page.

LinkedIn content shows up in Google search results which is invaluable for your brand.

At the time of writing, Gary Vaynerchuck has 1.3 million followers! Why? Because he creates great content – and often! #garyvee
